Pay close attention to what you hear. The closer you listen, the more understanding you will be given —and you will receive even more. (Mark 4:24)

Thought:

The moment of my conversion is marked in my memory by a sudden and powerful understanding. It was so profound and so sudden that I could only talk in terms of it having been “given” to me. Very soon after this gift of understanding came a strong desire to learn as much as I could about God. Within days I was literally “given” a New Living Translation bible and I haven’t stopped reading God’s word since. The more I read, the more I feel I am being given. My understanding of God is increasing and also the quality of everything else in my life is increasing too.

Word:

Mark 4:21-25 NLT

Then Jesus asked them, “Would anyone light a lamp and then put it under a basket or under a bed? Of course not! A lamp is placed on a stand, where its light will shine. For everything that is hidden will eventually be brought into the open, and every secret will be brought to light. Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.” Then he added, “Pay close attention to what you hear. The closer you listen, the more understanding you will be given —and you will receive even more. To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them.”

Psalms 37:23-25 NLT

23 The Lord directs the steps of the godly.
He delights in every detail of their lives.
24 Though they stumble, they will never fall,
for the Lord holds them by the hand.
25 Once I was young, and now I am old.
Yet I have never seen the godly abandoned
or their children begging for bread.

Goal:

I feel that I have received understanding from The Lord and with it a great passion for his word. It feels as if The Lord has lit a lamp and by the light it has cast, his truth has been made clear. My goal is to spend my life building a tall stand upon which to place this lamp God has lit in my heart. My hope is that it’s light will shine far and wide and bring the gift of understanding God into many more people’s lives.
